Violent Royal Mail ad banned due to ‘unjustifiable fear and distress’

A Royal Mail advert about the dangers of identity theft has been banned in case it causes ‘unjustifiable fear and distress’ to viewers.

The video ad sees a gang of men disguised in balaclavas and armed with baseball bats breaking into a bank to stage a robbery.

The clip, which was seen on Twitter on July 27, and the video on demand version seen on ITV Player on August 9, showed a female member of staff being grabbed repeatedly by the shoulder and the wrist and asked her full name and date of birth.

Other customers were asked similar questions about their personal identity, passwords and log-in details in a threatening manner.

Throughout the scene the members of the public, including a child, are shouted at aggressively by the assailants and appear scared and some even cry.
