Leading ride-hailing company in Pakistan originated from Dubai, Careem has recently announced through a blog post that the company got subjected to major cyber attack in January this year.
This unauthorized access to the system where Careem stores data has given hackers information regarding customer’s name, email id’s, phone numbers and trip data.
Twitter’s outrage in such a scenario was not unexpected.

A Security Researcher named Daniyal Nasir had reported critical flaws in @CareemUAE last year, but they didn’t pay any attention at first and later silently fixed those bugs. (REF: https://t.co/7IvGdWrXbc) 3/4

My thoughts specifically from a communications standpoint. Taking 3 months to come clean about the breach is terrible yet the PR strategy and real-time response on social media is just horrible. This is especially concerning since they had 3 months to prepare for it .#Careem

Not using @CareemPAK again, despite better services than #Uber.
Startups, focus on your customer’s information management. #Credibility goes a long way and #DataManagement is everything!#Disappointed #Careem— NamraM (@Namramable) April 23, 2018
After wiki leaks, Panama leaks, Facebook leaks and Dawn leaks, now #Careem presents Careem Leaks.
Why the morons are saving users personal data when they can’t even protect it??

And this guy managed to crack a joke amidst the ongoing stress!
I have a negative credit balance in #Careem app. Is there by any chance that the hackers could reset it to 0? pic.twitter.com/DVzaxq2loZ
