Terrified circus elephant almost crushes audience during performance

This is the worrying moment an elephant charged towards a crowd of people when it was spooked during a circus performance in Germany.

The scary footage shows one elephant – carrying a female performer – ramming into another, sending the huge animal toppling into the audience.

It has caused animal rights campaigners to call for a ban on forcing wild animals to perform in captivity.

The elephant was performing in Osnabruck on Wednesday with company Circus Krone – Germany’s largest operating circus that features wild animals – when the incident took place.

Nobody was said to be seruiously injured but one spectator is reported to have suffered ‘abrasions’ as the mammal came tumbling towards him.

The elphant that fell into the crowd is said to have suffered a swollen leg.

Despite taking a short break, the show continued as normal after the incident.
