Samsung retains the throne of being one of the best smartphone manufacturers in the world. The firm receives billions of dollars in annual revenue from the sale of smartphones alone. Their flagship series is the Galaxy S series, whose latest models include the Galaxy S9 and S9+.
Both of these phones were launched back in February 2018 and received quite a warm welcome judging from the fact that Samsung sold over 8 million smartphones in the first/opening month.
When is the S10/S10+ coming out?
The successor to the Galaxy S9 will be the Galaxy S10 and its other variants, which are expected to release next year during the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2019 at Las Vegas. Prior to release, a number of leaks and rumors arise which help in making a wild guess about the phone’s appearance and technical specifications, and such a leak has just confirmed that there will three variants of the S10 released next year.
S10 to have an in-display fingerprint sensor
First, the successor to the S9, the Galaxy S10. The S10 is expected to boast a 5.8-inch curved display, similar to the S9. The S10 is reportedly being called “Beyond 1” by Samsung’s team. It is expected to have a dual-camera setup. One of the most-demanded features in the market, an in-display fingerprint sensor is expected to be present in the S10. While this feature was originally expected to be present in the upcoming Galaxy Note 9, a few technical flaws have reportedly shunned the chances of that.
S10 Plus to sport a triple-lens camera setup
The S10+ will succeed the S9+. Like the S9+, the S10+ will also have a 6.2-inch curved display along with a rumored triple-lens camera setup on the back. This would be the first time Samsung uses a triple-lens setup for its smartphones. Huawei did the same a few months back with its P20 Pro and it’s safe to say that the feature is well-liked. Additionally, the S10+ is also likely to feature a larger battery than the S10. The S10+ is codenamed “Beyond 2” within Samsung. However, these two aren’t the talk of the town right now, the third version is.
S10 will come with three variants
The third trim of the S10, codenamed Beyond 0 is expected to clone the design of the S7. What that means is, it might have a flat display with solid bezels. While this means that Samsung has decided to go against its own trend of putting curved displays in flagships, this particular version will be marketed to the entry-level high-range smartphone customer base. The flat screen will bear a size of 5.8 inches, meaning the only differential between Beyond 0 and Beyond 1 will be a curved display. Unlike the S10 and S10+, Beyond 0 is unlikely to feature an in-display fingerprint sensor.
From Samsung’s point of view, the cheaper trim can help in pushing the price of the S10+ past the $1,000 barrier. This way, they could categorize the S10+ for the elite while retaining its customer base with the S10 and the cheaper version, Beyond 0. Does this mean they’ll be successful in capturing three different markets at a different time? Or do you think the likes of the upcoming 2018 iPhone X Plus will present unmatchable competition for the S10+?
