Guide to the installation process of Android P in your Pixel device

Google has released the beta version of Android P for its Pixel devices. This beta program is being dubbed the Developer Preview, with this stage being labeled Developer Preview 3. The most convenient way of getting Android P in your Pixel is to enroll in the Beta program, after which Google will send an over-the-air update to your phone, prompting you to upgrade to the latest OS.

Starting off, here is the list of devices currently eligible to enroll in the Android Beta program:

  • Google Pixel
  • Google Pixel XL
  • Google Pixel 2
  • Google Pixel 2 XL
  1. Once you’ve verified that your device is eligible to update, go to the Android Beta program portal on your phone and sign in using your Google account.
  2. Afterwards, click on “Your Eligible Devices” and look for the device you want to install the new OS in.
  3. Once done, tap “Opt-in”. After this, your entry will be automatically processed by Google, which will be followed by them sending an over-the-air update directly to your phone.

At any stage of the beta, if you feel like you don’t want Android P, you can simply go back to the Beta program portal and click “opt-out”. This would prompt Google to send an over-the-air update enabling you to revert back to the latest stable version of Android.

Do note, however, that it is highly recommended to back your stuff up on a cloud or a PC before reverting back as all data on the phone will be wiped out completely
