Never underestimate the power of the music fan.
After what was quite the campaign, Weezer have finally given in to repeated calls from their fanbase to record a cover of Toto’s 1982 classic Africa.
The movement began after one fan of the American band relentlessly plagued the four-piece with requests to put their own spin on Africa, with the account the fan set up for this very purpose – @WeezerAfrica – now in command of over 2500 followers.
Apparently run by a 14-year-old Weezer fan who hails from Cleveland, the calls for the Africa cover – which were part-inspired by the song’s recent inclusion in Stranger Things – have been coming in thick and fast since at least December.
