Barely two hours after touching down in New Orleans and I was biting through the layers of an Andouille Crusted Gulf Drum.
It’s a delicious fish dish coated in a bread crumb and sausage mix, which I tasted at Emeril’s Restaurant, the original joint from celebrity chef and restauranteur Emeril Lagasse, who’s a bit of a US TV personality.
It was a welcome introduction to the city’s food scene. Having won many awards over the past 25 years, Emeril’s is not cheap – entreés range from around $28 (£20) to $45.
But if you want to experience NOLA’s (New Orleans, Louisiana) food, its biggest draw after the music (after all, it is the birthplace of jazz), it’s definitely worth indulging here one night.
Oh, and even a classy spot like Emeril’s offers you a keep-cup if you’d like to take your last drink to go.
It’s completely fine to swig from these while walking around the city.
