Fortnite has gone down across the world this morning, causing massed wailing and gnashing of teeth.
However, this outage was planned.
It is part of the publisher’s maintenance schedule and should be up in a few hours at most.
In a tweet, Epic Games wrote: ‘We’re applying updates to our backend services tomorrow, April 5 at 4am ET (0800 GMT) that will help with scaling. There will be downtime.’
Earlier today, it added: ‘Downtime has started! We’re about to take matchmaking offline so we can perform some updates. No ETA for return, but we hope to have you back in the game ASAP.’
Gamers took to Twitter to vent their rage.
‘Can we play this game?’ one person asked.
