Arsenal are back at Wembley on Sunday for their fourth cup final in five seasons. Manchester City stand in the way of Arsene Wenger becoming just the seventh manager in the history of English football to win every domestic trophy. Not bad for a club that so often feel like a defeat away from a crisis.
The latter years of Wenger’s reign at the club have been marked by the club’s ability to confound expectations at the right time in cup competitions. Though success in 2014 in the FA Cup failed to provide the launchpad for Premier League success that many supporters had hoped, the Gunners have won three trophies in a period in which the likes of Liverpool and Tottenham have remained empty-handed.
But, while Chelsea provided stiff competition in last season’s FA Cup final, the prospect of facing Pep Guardiola’s all-conquering Manchester City side will be the toughest test yet for Arsenal at Wembley.
