I don’t have a massive list of career achievements from 2017, because this year was the year I decided to try to sort out my mental health once and for all.
That involved making my career less of a priority.
I’ve been freelance for years as doing the same job five days a week doesn’t work for me, but this year, I decided to cut back my hours (I live in a really cheap and er…lower quality flatshare which takes the financial pressure off) and finally focus on getting better.
I’ve had anxiety and depression for half my life, which was a massive wake-up call. I came to the conclusion that my mental health is more important than the amount of money in the bank, or having loads of epic, career-defining features to add to my portfolio.
I have regular income from a couple of places, and usually spend the rest of the week working on pitches to get commissions from elsewhere.
