Grime is a musical monster with its tentacles wrapped around pop culture and politics – and only getting bigger.
Names like Skepta, Stormzy and J Hus are now regular faces on mainstream TV talk shows, winning Mercury and Brit Awards, headlining summer festivals and worldwide tours.
Grime even impacted this year’s election – the #grimevote meant political parties are finally focussing more on young people and including their needs in manifestos.
The genre was created around 2002 in the working class tower blocks in East London.
And the Godfather Of Grime is Richard Cowie Jnr aka Wiley.
I met him at an East London studio after he’d flown in from his home in Cyprus to promote his new book, Eskiboy, which is out on November 2.
