A case of BSE – also known as Mad Cow Disease – has been confirmed on a farm in Scotland.
Restrictions have been put in place at the farm in Aberdeenshire as investigations take place into the origin of the disease.
A statement from the Scottish government said: ‘This is a standard procedure for a confirmed case of classical BSE, which does not represent a threat to human health.’
BSE first was discovered in cattle in the United Kingdom in 1986 but has been found in an additional 24 countries since.
