Channel 4’s diverse school based drama Ackley Bridge proved an almighty hit when it made its triumphant debut last year and now the popular cast are heading back to our screens for series two.
The first run of the serial – the first 8pm drama on the channel since the demise of Brookside way back in 2003 – has stormed ahead in the ratings (with a consolidated average of 2.2 million viewers, far outperforming Channel 4’s regular figures for the timeslot) and won rave reviews, with the mix of drama and comedy and the themes of diversity, friendship and adversity winning over a huge fanbase.
Young people in particular were engaging with the show, with it being the highest rated commission for 10-15 year-olds on the channel last year and a huge share for 16-34 year olds as well. Not bad for a debut series!
