Jose Mourinho would usually abhor the prospect of an international break at this crucial stage of the season but few Premier League clubs are in need of a time out as much as Manchester United.
The Red Devils limped into the semi-finals of the FA Cup with a drab 2-0 win against Brighton on Saturday and Mourinho ensured the mood of the break remained sour at Old Trafford by tearing into his squad and Luke Shaw in particular.
The win did little to mask one of the most testing weeks Mourinho has endured at the club since taking over and his side’s Champions League exit threatens to overshadow the remainder of their campaign.
