A shocking 3% of millennials believe Mariah Carey wrote Auld Lang Syne

The tradition of singing Auld Lang Syne at New Year’s may be dying out, as nearly 50% of 18-24-year-olds don’t know the words – and a shocking 56% have no clue as to who wrote the poem.

Written in 1788 by Scottish poet Robert Burns, the song is set to the tune of a traditional folk song and is sung to bid farewell to the past 12 months and look forward to the next 12 months.

But a new poll has revealed that 42% of millennials admitted that they don’t know a single word while 3% of 18-24-year-olds think Mariah Carey wrote the song.

In even more depressing news, 40% of everyone polled mistakenly identified lyrics from The Beatles songs as Auld Lang Syne lyrics, 60% thought Abba lyrics were from the song, and 34% thought Taylor Swift lyrics were sung.
